Poem from the Way Back Closet: Polly Yester-day Sweater

redsweater

“… and the stretched out sweater stays”

She has stood up all these years

even with the wear and tears,

stains and tears.

Through it all

she has not come totally apart

at the seams

as if she were made of leather-

but she is of fine cotton

and polyester

As the cardigan holes expand

she breathes more at ease.

She is vibrant still

in her cheery, cherry red glory

which has not faded

in the cycle of tumble and fall.
