A Poem for the Day After the Big Day : 5th of July

5 JULY

In my little black book

you’re on the 5th of July.

I cross you out in red

in the window

though you’re still noteworthy-

not celebrated

but observed for a moment.

I reminisce you

sans the glory and fanfare

of a great procession,

sans the sparks.

You’re still able to capture my fancy

but won’t reverberate deeply in me

and quicken my pulse.
